Antique Belgian military gorget dating to the 19th century, featuring the national Lion of Belgium crest.
This example is marked to “Maurice Journez – Bruxelles,” a known Belgian military outfitter . It retains its original fitted retailer’s box, a scarce survival that significantly enhances collector value.
The gorget is constructed in gilt brass with a pronounced crescent form, designed to be worn at the throat. The central device shows the Belgian lion standing with shield, framed by a laurel and oak wreath, with lion head terminals at each end. Original red cord elements remain.
